Sarasota County Jail Roster

The Sarasota County Jail Roster is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. On the SarasotaCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recently arrested individuals. Additionally, data is available through the official arrest search on the Sarasota County Sheriff's website, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The registry allows you to check the custody status of a specific person, view the charges filed, and the booking date. The registry is maintained by the Sheriff's Office Corrections Division and is regularly updated based on booking and release data.

Search Current Inmates in Sarasota Jail

There are several ways to find information about inmates currently in custody.

Online Search

  1. Visit the "Who's in Jail?" page on the Sarasota County Sheriff's website.
  2. Enter the person's last name in the search field. Optionally, add the first name to narrow the results.
  3. If you know the booking number, use it — it is the most accurate way to identify.
  4. Review the results: the system will show basic data — name, booking date, charges, and custody status.

Additionally, SarasotaCourt.us provides public information related to the court records of arrested individuals.

By Phone

Call the Sarasota County Jail and inquire about a specific person. The operator can confirm if the person is in custody if you provide the full legal name or booking number.

Personal Visit

You can visit the jail lobby directly. Note: information about juvenile offenders is not displayed in the public registry.

Find Sarasota Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created when a person is officially admitted to jail. This process includes recording personal data, photographing, fingerprinting, and registering charges.

Each record contains:

  • A unique booking number
  • The date and time of admission to the facility
  • A list of charges filed
  • The name of the agency that made the arrest
  • Basic identification data of the detainee

To view booking records online, use the arrest and inmate search tool on the sheriff's website. The Jail Booking page explains the admission procedure carried out by the Corrections Division. If an official document is needed — for example, for an attorney or court — a public records request can be submitted directly to the sheriff's office. According to Florida Public Records Law (Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes), most arrest information is publicly accessible.

Search the Sarasota Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The online registry supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one letter can affect the result.
  • If the last name is common, add the first name for more precise filtering.
  • Try spelling variations if you are unsure (e.g., with or without a hyphen).

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most reliable identifier. It eliminates errors associated with identical names. This number is usually provided to relatives during the first contact with the facility or can be found in arrest documents.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of results does not always mean the person was not arrested. Possible reasons:

  • The person has already been released or transferred to another facility.
  • The booking process is not yet complete, and the data has not been entered into the system.
  • The last name was entered incorrectly.

In such cases, call the jail directly at 941-861-5800. The operator can manually check the status. To search for individuals with state-level arrest warrants, you can also use the FDLE wanted persons database.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Sarasota

The inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. There may be a few hours between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the online system — the time needed to complete the booking process and enter the data.

Main limitations to be aware of:

LimitationExplanation
Delay after arrestThe record appears only after full booking processing, which can take from one to several hours.
Disappearance after releaseAfter release or transfer, the person's record usually disappears from the active roster.
Not an archiveThe roster only shows those currently in custody. Historical data on past arrests is not available through it.
Input errorsSometimes inaccuracies occur in the spelling of names or classification of charges, which are corrected later.

To obtain archival records of arrests or bookings no longer in the active roster, submit an official public records request to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. If the case is already under court review, court documents can be found through ClerkNet — the county court clerk's portal.
